LEGO® Group

This very popular program combines the joy of playing with LEGO® with the development of social skills, perspective taking, self-advocacy skills, turn taking, negotiation skills and all round skills needed for group work.

Brick by Brick provides children with an opportunity to play together with a shared love of LEGO® while developing a range of specific social skills.

Through plays based therapy, children learn to communicate with their peers, express their feelings appropriately, learn different ways of relating to others while developing their problem solving skills. Children (and adults) love playing with LEGO® while it is systematic and predictable, it allows for endless creativity and imagination. This allows children to feel calm, regulated and engaged during play. 

All sessions are implemented by Certified Facilitators of LEGO® Based Therapy.

Why LEGO®?

The LEGO® System of bricks is a highly organised, systematic and predictable toy. This makes it highly motivating for children as it removes the unpredictable and ever changing concepts that occur during free play. This allows the children to feel calm, regulated and engaged during play. 

In the sessions, children learn a clear set of social skills while improving their LEGO® building skills. They work in a group to agree upon a project that is achievable for everyone in the group. Each team member is assigned a role:

Engineers hold the building instructions, and are responsible for letting the others know which bricks are required (supplier) and how to put them together (builder).

Suppliers hold the LEGO® bricks necessary to assemble the model, and is responsible for supplying the builder with the correct pieces at the correct time.

Builders are responsible for taking the individual pieces from the supplier, and putting the pieces together, according to the instructions given by the architect, to create the model.
Roles are rotated throughout the sessions so children can learn different roles and responsibilities.
