PROGRAMS OFFERED

Tuning into Kids
PARENTS ONLY
Tuning in to Kids® is an evidence-based, emotion-focused group parenting program that focuses on the emotional connection between parents and children. The program aims to teach parents and carers skills in recognising, understanding and managing their own and their children's emotions. No program dates available currently.

School Readiness using Social Thinking
PRE SCHOOL
This program is for children who are beginning school the following year who have solid oral language skills. Through a range of both structured and play based learning activities children will learn skills that will set them up for a successful start to school.

WHAT WE OFFER
The Social Skills Hub aims to create positive connections for all. Bringing social skills training direct to you at home.
Our programs are as effective online as they are face-to-face, many prefer the online format. Our online format brings social skills training to your child’s living room. Children are in the own familiar space, with familiar surroundings, sells, noise and lighting. They begin sessions relaxed in their own environment. Kids love using the tech of Zoom and they can focus easily on a screen - much more easily than if they were in an unfamiliar place. It also provides the added benefit of teaching online etiquette.
“My child didn’t attend one online session for remote learning but they would attend the Secret Agent Society online.”

Online Social Skills Training Sessions
All of our courses, except for our school readiness program and Brick by Brick Lego Therapy, can be done from Zoom at home. Living in a rural area does not have to mean you or your child misses out on opportunities to participate in programs that will benefit overall daily living skills. Many children and families prefer to learn by Zoom because it is so convenient and because it works!
What makes things work well on Zoom is being able to watch skills demonstrated and then actually getting the opportunity to put those skills into practice. Zoom sessions are also great because it means you and your child’s learning can proceed despite Covid related isolation requirements because your child can learn from anywhere. If you prefer face-to-face, we have that covered too.

WHY
SOCIAL SKILLS?
Social skills do not come naturally to everyone, many children and adults often look at their world around them and wonder why so many of their social interactions don’t make sense. When social skills are explicitly taught you are providing an opportunity to increase ones sense of emotional intelligence and provide an opportunity to make sense of the world around them.
Communication with our peers, friends, family, teachers, and employers is crucial for creating successful relationships as we move from an education to an employment setting. Successful communication has a lot less to do with the words and sentences we choose, rather it relies on our emotional intelligence and our ability to read situations, be aware of our own and others body language. We use our emotional intelligence when we are around others, when we sit in a classroom, line up at the supermarket, read a book or engage in social media, move through traffic and participate in a work meeting. It is our emotional intelligence that processes our thoughts, emotions, intentions of others, and uses that information to determine how we respond. How we think affects how we behave, which in turn affects how others respond to us. The complexities of social skills is one part of our emotional intelligence which many take for granted. When we are unsure of how to read situations and emotions this impacts on our ability to effectively communicate with others and build successful relationships.
The Social Skills Hub offers a number of programs to explicitly teach social skills to empower children, teens and young adults to build successful relationships. For your convenience, we offer many of our programs online, as well as face-to-face. Get in touch to find out more.
